BIOLOGY

Detection

Using a process called lateral flow, explained below, with a highly sensitive biological detection molecule called a nanobody, we are able to detect any chemical present in a liquid.

CIRCUIT

Translation

We are using an Arduino-based circuit to translate our detection to vibration, so that anyone regardless of ability, has the agency to know how safe their water is.

Coming together

Together, the lateral flow and circuit are enclosed in an easy to use, portable, mycelium composite.

About Team Nanobuddy

Team Nanobuddy is comprised of a diverse group with various backgrounds and experiences...yet all with a shared passion for developing a product that protects the environment and all that live in it.

Shailaja Chadha has been pursuing Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems at UC Davis with a keen eye for soil and water remediation solutions. Shai’s favorite type of biome is wetlands.

Kyle Krueger is pursuing Evolution Ecology and Biodiversity at UC Davis. Kyle’s academic pursuits include focus on Environmental Systems and Management. His favorite type of biome is tropical rain forest.

Bopan Ni spends most of his time in the UC Davis Design Department. Bopan’s focus is on industrial design and his favorite types of biomes include valleys and basins.

E lizabeth Marley has a background in architecture and continuing design research at UC Davis as a MFA design grad exploring biodesign and bioremediation. E’s favorite types of biomes are estuaries.
